Peony roots are a perennial that thrive when planted in the fall. When planted into healthy, amended soil and supplemented with fresh compost every year they can live fifty years or more, starting small the first year and then getting better and better every year. Plant so that eyes are pointing up and about 2 inches below the surface of the soil.
